how to help kids overcome their ketchup addiction
Are you that mom who is worried that your kids lunch/snack boxes come back home intact!? Are your kids obsessed with tomato ketchup/ sauce that they don't complete their food if you don't add it in their plates or boxes!!??
Like every other kid, even my girls are so much into the whole drama of ketchup/ sauce!!! And me, being like any other mom in this world is worried about the amount of sugar/salt and the preservatives that goes into their body while relishing these store brought sauces!

So, I'm here to share few tips that works for my kids to eat better and enjoy their meals without it!
▪First and foremost would be "Out of sight is out of mind": We have just stopped buying ketchup bottles so that if it isn't there right in front of their eyes, they don't ask for it! We generally buy those small sachets, just coz if we have guests over, they can have it.
▪You have to limit the intake for yourself: Our kids learn by seeing us! So if we don't want them to eat it, we need to stop having it at first!
▪Replace it with something healthier: Make the sandwiches or roti rolls healthier by replacing the normal ketchup with hummus, homemade chutneys , peanut butter and so on.
▪Try making your own ketchup at home: So you know exactly what goes in it and you can alter the recipe as per your kid’s likings!
▪Keep up your swapping game: When they are stubborn about having ketchup itself and nothing else just bring in some of their favorite food in front and try diverting their mind into eating this than that. It’s all about mind games you know!!
▪Portion control: If they are super addicted and you are worried that they aren't taking their meals without it, just start by reducing the amount of ketchup slowly so that at least their meals will be finished! And keep repeating it unless they are ready to completely give it up.
▪Now, the challenge comes when we go out to have our food! We put so much effort at home but when we are out, it's all gone in vain!
My most important tip here would be to teach kids why it's not good to have excessive amounts of any food for that matter from young itself so that they will understand the reason behind us trying to give them healthy food!
It doesn't happen overtime, but with constant hearing and seeing from their parents kids will definitely adopt this habit of being healthy or eating healthy in general!
One trick that we use is that whenever my kids get stomach aches or feel ill we tell them that how junk food affects our stomach/health! So coz they are in pain they understand it better!! It's just our perspective and what we have been doing for my girls! So you can give this a try as well
