My top 5 Navaratri Dasara Dusherra delicacies
It's festival season and how can we not think of some delicious sweet treats and yummy food to tickle our taste buds. Here are my top 5 navaratri delicius. It’s that time of the year, where calories are not counted and the amount of love we share gets doubled.
In my place, it's mostly lots of good food, relatives and long chats, dress up and temple visits sums up the whole festival season.
So I'm here sharing my 5 favorite dishes that I look forward to have during every festival. I hate spending lots of time standing in the kitchen, hence most of my recipes are really easy and quick to prepare thus minimizing the time spent in the kitchen!
Sweet fritters/ Banana fritters
1.3 medium sized bananas
2.1 cup wheat flour
3.Half cup jaggery powder/sugar
4.A pinch of elaichi powder
5.Salt to taste
7.Oil for frying
In a wide vessel, mash the bananas really well and add in other ingredients except water and oil! Mix it well and then add water little by little to get idli batter consistency. Once done, make small balls and fry them in hot oil. Your first dish is ready. Wasn't it simple and quick!!
1.1 cup sabudana/tapaico pearls
3.1 potato, diced
4.One spoonful of ginger and green chili paste
5.1 tablespoon of white sesame seeds
8.Oil for tempering
As a pre preparation step, you need to soak the sabudana pearls either overnight or for half an hour based on the type you are using.
In a pan, add in oil, curry leaves, peanuts, sesame seeds, ginger chili paste, chopped potatoes and fry them really nice until the potatoes soften a bit.
Next add in rinsed and drained tapiaco pearls with required amount of salt to taste and just sprinkle a little water and let it cook completely.
Once done garnish it with coriander leaves and the perfect vrat friendly dish is ready to serve. It adds up as a breakfast option too.
Being a south Indian, how can I not like holige. This is a little time consuming but the end product is worth all the efforts:
We are dividing it into 3 steps here:
1.Let's prepare the filling first:
Soak 1 cup of chana dal for at least half an hour and then pressure cook it for around 2 to 3 whistles. Drain the excess water and add in 1 cup of sugar to the cooked dal and keep stirring continuously until the sugar melts and the dal absorbs it completely. Once done add in elaichi powder, let it cool.
Next blend this in a blender without adding any water. Your filling is ready.
2.For the dough, take one cup of all purpose flour, salt to taste yellow food color and form dough using required water and set aside!
3.Next start preparing holige like you do allow parathas or any stuffed parathtas!
Take ball sized dough, roll it slightly, keep a lemon sized filling and cover it and then flatten slightly thinner than rotis, paratas. Cook them over medium flame and enjoy it with ghee. This one is my absolute favorites and tastes best when served warm.
