Would you rather read a book or let your kids watch a movie version of a story?
Would you rather read a book or watch a movie version of a story!? Which one is better!?
Today's topic is one of the kinds which are best suited for debates!
If given an option would you read a book or show a movie version of it to your little one!?
This one is quite tricky right!?
Both of them have their own set of advantages and I think it gets hard to choose one!
But I'm here to share my opinion which one would I choose and why!?
My first preference would always be to read a book to my girls. According to me, reading helps in various ways!
✔It creates a nice atmosphere in the house!
✔We all sit together and read aloud, having fun with little talks in between!
✔It increases kid’s imagination power.
✔We can make the story more interesting by adding in our own bits!
✔We can translate it to the language that kids understand quickly! For instance, I would read in English first and then tell them what it meant in my mother tongue. By doing so, they can relate to it and it's like learning two languages in one go!
✔The images in the story books help them to learn more than just the story!
✔It even gives me gadget free time which I can spend productively in teaching something good to my kids!
✔The feeling of just sitting with them without any worries and spending time listening to their innocent talks and interpretations instantly lifts up my mood!
Now coming to the second part of the story:
There are days when I just put YouTube videos and keep them occupied!
Yup, I even do that!
On days, when I'm extremely busy or unwell and I have lost my cool for some reason and don’t want to let my anger flow on my kids, I prefer movies over me reading them stories!
Later, I feel guilty for doing it but at that point of time it was best suited!
As I mentioned earlier, this would be the last option that I would opt for!
✔I don't prefer it because I feel that the screen comes in between me and my kids!
✔When they are watching, they are so much into it that they just don't want to listen to what I have to say!
✔Less scope for imagination and they start believing whatever they see.
✔Kids even start imitating and demanding the things that they have seen in the movie!
✔The rays can be damaging their eyesight too.
✔The whole house gets into the mechanical mode! I will be either in my phone/laptop, my husband busy with his official work and kids with their tab/TV!
This is the last thing that I want to see in my house!
So, this was just my take on this topic! I tried to mention both the sides of my story and kept it real!
Lastly, remember that there are no perfect parents, and there are no perfect children, but there are plenty of perfect moments along the way! Let’s try to make more and more memories which we can share with our kids once they get older!
